Welcome to the Engineering Kids' website

Our goal is to instill in children an early understanding of and enthusiasm for the different fields of engineering. We hope to achieve this through a series of illustrated Engineering Kid's Storybooks.

What is Engineering? Engineering is the application of science and mathematics by which the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people. (Engineering Def: Merriam Websters Collegiate Dictionary. 10th Ed. 1996.)

Who are the Engineering Kids? The Engineering Kids are a group of bright and inquisitive 2nd grade children with a penchant for learning from one another. Each storybook features an adventure of an Engineering Kid, each of whom is associated with a different field of engineering.

What Makes the Engineering Kids Storybooks Series Special? The Engineering Kids Storybooks series is the only series of illustrated books written by Professional Engineers that specifically targets children ages 4-8 with the goal of teaching them about the different fields of engineering.

Why Is It Important to Educate Children about Engineering? Why NOT educate children about the world of engineering? Engineering invokes creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

Furthermore, children should be educated about engineering in effort to produce more engineers for the future. A shortage of engineers is expected in the future, a prediction that should cause concern since engineering is critical in order to maintain our infrastructure, keep the United States a leader in technology.

According to the National Academy of Engineering, 'no profession unleashes the spirit of innovation like engineering. From research to real-world applications, engineers constantly discover how to improve our lives by creating bold new solutions that connect science to life in unexpected, forward- thinking ways. Few professions turn so many ideas into so many realities. Few have such a direct and positive effect on people's everyday lives. We are counting on engineers and their imaginations to help us meet the needs of the 21st century.'
